Try the 5-step creative process
Forget the idea that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Success for a creative person is at least 51% process.
Here’s the creative process I learned when I worked at Hallmark Cards and have used every day for the last 30 years:
- Forage, or gather information.
- Analyze that information, sifting, organizing and looking for themes.
- Incubate, or let the information simmer in the back of your mind.
- Break through, or experience the aha! moment.
- Knuckle down, or apply the seat of the pants to the seat of the chair and write a great message.
Complete these steps in this order, and you’ll soon find that you come up with more and better ideas.
